The Education Division of Taipei Economic and Culture Office (TECO) in Houston held an Awarding Ceremony for the winners of “2013 Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) in Large Houston Area” on May 10, 2013 at Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston.
There were total 123 applicants resist 2013 TOCFL in the large Houston area; 114 were actually attending this test and 57 of them were passed. The passing rate is about 50%. The age scope of these TOCFL candidates is from 8 to 51 years old, including different racial groups.
TOCFL is to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where Chinese is used as the language of communication. In the southern 8 states of United States, the Education Division of TECO in Houston organized 6 TOCFL and 3 Children TOCFL in 2013, which were held at Mississippi College, University of Texas at El Paso, Jasper High School and Southlake Carroll High School, etc. The total number of TOCFL attendants is 290.
TOCFL has been held in 28 countries, 55 cities. More than 16,000 candidates have taken TOCFL since 2003. Successful examinees will receive a Chinese Proficiency Certificate as a credential for being eligible for the “Taiwan Scholarship”, “TOCFL Scholarship” and “Ministry of Education Huayu Enrichment Scholarship” sponsored by the Ministry of Education for studying in Taiwan.
