Deputy Director-General Ms. Julie Chiu received Mr. Scott Barnett, the Trustee of the San Diego Unified School District, on April 17, 2013 to discuss potential academic bilateral cooperation and Mandarin Chinese Education Project.
Director-General Ms. Julie emphasized that Taiwan is an ideal place for overseas students to learn Mandarin Chinese. The MOE has been actively recruiting more international students to come to Taiwan for study, while offering Mandarin Chinese overseas language teachers continued support, internship programs for teaching assistants and short-term Mandarin Chinese teacher training courses in Taiwan. This year, the MOE has sent 15 Mandarin Chinese teachers to the United States.
The San Diego Unified School, founded in 1854, serves more than 132,000 students, in pre-school through grade 12 and is the second largest district in California.
